North Light Workshops
Started in January of 2005 by internationally recognized photographer Bill Schwab, North Light Press and Workshops were created with the fine photographic practitioner and enthusiast in mind. Currently in development on 10 acres of woodland in beautiful northern Michigan’s Emmet County is the base of operations for our photographic tours, educational programs and publishing operations.
With a workshop facility completed in late 2014 with help from two succesful Kickstarter campaigns, we are on track to offer several workshops throughout the year. In the past, we have had a limited schedule of activities that started with the Midwest A.P.U.G. (Analog Photography User Group) members gathering in June of 2006. This gathering has now grown into the festival known far and wide as “Photostock” and is attended by an estimated 100-150 photographers each year from around the world.
Beginning with “The Platinum Landscape” in September of 2006 we began offering periodic workshops in a variety of processes that have since included instructors such as Holly Roberts, Shelby Lee Adams, David J. Eisenlord, Clay Harmon, Kerik Kouklis, Sandy King and more. Now, with a fully functional workshop facility, we will be bringing in more world class teachers to run programs.
Early in 2007 we began offering photographic excursions to Iceland which went better than could be imagined and today have become very popular filling as many as 2 trips a year. In fact, we have begun offering tours to the Faroe Islands as well with 5 successful trips there to date. In 2015, we will be adding several tours closer to home, but no less spectacular. There are some beautiful things in our backyard… Lake Michigan, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Lake Superior and more. We have big plans. Over the next few years we hope to grow and expand the operation to include something for everyone from the seasoned pro to the simple enthusiast of the photographic arts.
Our remote location is ideally situated a very short distance from some of the finest land and waterscapes Michigan has to offer. And, although remote, we are also very close to Pellston Regional Airport (PLN) which has 3 major carrier flights a day from Detroit and soon from Minneapolis’ Delta Airline hubs making us easy to reach.
